( D epartm ent of R ad io logy, 15 H osp ital o f PLA, W u su 833000, Ch ina) [Abstract] Objective:T o investigate the X - ray app earance of lungs in the p atientsw ith m alaria to mi prove the know ledge o f m alaria. M ethods: Tw enty - seven m a laria pat ien ts w ith fever, cough and expectoration w ere retrosp ect ive ly stu died. T he m alaria p arasites in p er ipheral blood sm ear w ere all found in the 27 pat ients. The chest X - ray f ilm sw ere analyzed. Results: T he lung m ark ing becam e fuzzy in 14 cases, scattered spo t and plaque- like sh adow s w ere found along lung m ark ing in 8 cases, segm ental conso lidat ion in 3 cases and lob ar con so lidation in 2 cases. A fter 5 to 10 days of anti - m alaria treatm ent, m ost focu ses o f infection in lungs w ere ab so rbed. Conclusion: The ch anges o f X - ray appearance of lung var ied w ith the severity o f m alaria. In m ost cases, they w ere bronch itis o r interstitia l changes. T he lobu lar, segm enta l or lob ar pneum on ia w as found in the severe m a laria pat ien ts. T he lung lesion s w ere ab sorbed qu ickly after anti- m alaria treatm ent.
