Methods From 20 08 to 2 00 9, efforts w ere made to isolate S. p neumoniae from throat swab and sput um samples with respiratory infection in children of 1 month t o 6 years old t reated in Zhon shan Boai H ospital. Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion and E-test w ere conducted to test the ant imicrobial suscept ibility of these clinical isolates. Results T otally 3 10 st rains of S . p neumoniae were isolated from throat sw ab and sputum. The prevalence of S . p neumoniae nonsus- ceptible to penicillin was 78 . 0 % . T he prevalence of penicillin-resistant S. p neumoniae w as 0% . About 90. 7% of the isolates w ere suscept ible to ceftriaxone, 9 . 3 % intermediate.
