By enhancing some information and restraining other information selectively it can improve image visual effect observably or computer analysis and processing better. Increasing the intervals of gray levels, enhancing gray contrast is implemented by the traditional gray enhancement algorithms. When the number of gray levels used by an image is very less, anticipated effects are difficultly achieved. Wavelet analysis has predominant advantages in image de-noising and image enhancement，due to its extracting multi-resolution characters of signal and making the difference between noise and signal very clear．This proposed the grads enhancement algorithm based on wavelet transforms that can achieve the better effects by increasing the number of gray levels and enhancing gray contrast. Using appropriate method of image enhancement for different characteristics of images, better enhancement effects can be achieved．Experiences showed that the improved algorithms proposed by the thesis achieved better effects than
