The Past and Present China English：A View from New Words Abstract Nowadays, English has been adopted widely all over the world as a lingua franca. English in China has a long history. Such a fact hints that the English in China, like Singaporean English, has acquired its own identity and thus, its own name-standard China English. Research on standard China English, with the development of other varieties of English, has been gaining heat. In the rank of lexis, the influence of Chinese culture is most obvious. But in-depth research on standard China English in a lexical view is, as it were, rare and such inadequacy of research on China English suggest a meaningful and rewarding topic here, hence, the target of the present thesis. Key words：Standard China English; lexical view; Chinglish 摘要 如今，英语逐渐作为一种通用语言在全世界范围使用。英语在中国已有了很长的历史，这表明，中国英语与新加坡英语一样，形成了自己的语言文化身份。而近20年来，关于中国英语的研究也越来越热。 在词汇层面上，中国文化的影响是最明显的，但是语言学家们大都就中国英语的定义进行讨论，而在词汇层面上的研究，并不是很多。因此，这也就是本篇论文的目的。 关键词：中国英语；词汇层面；中式英语 1. Introduction There is no doubt that English is the most widely spoken language in the world. It is the main medium between businessmen, academics, technical experts and tourists in the world. People all over the world use it as a tool for international communication. The globalization of English is accompanied by its localization. Different regions give birth to different expressions, thus English is cut off with western culture and mingled with local culture, which makes English even more international and the criterion for standard more flexible. There has been a dramatic increase in the number of language varieties such as Indian English, Zambian English and Singaporean English. Thus, we come to be familiar with its plural form: Englishes. And those language varieties, with the embodiment of their local culture, have draw attention of linguists, sociologists and psychologists around the world.
