Learn to get the right information from a TV programme, complete Sandy’s notes and a conversation. 3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living on Mars , and express their own opinions. Teaching procedures Activity One: Speaking 1. Check the students’ oral English. (Topic 16) 2. Read the two passages together. 3. Conclusion: When we say something about a topic, what should we pay attention to? Activity Two: Listening 1. Before listening, encourage the students to say some listening tips , and the teacher concludes, then using some listening questions to help students understand the listening tips better. 2. Do some listening. (《人机对话》 Test5, p13) 3. Check the answers in groups. 4. The teacher explains some difficult problems. 5. Students read the listening materials of the common questions by themselves. Activity Three: Integrated Skills Step One: Part A1 T: As we all know, because of the rapid increase in population, our Earth is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. Some people want to live on Mars, including Daniel. However, Sandy is still not sure if she would like to. Luckily, this week, there is a TV programme on this topic “Life on Mars”. Read the information in Part A1 on Page 59 first, then listen to the tape and help Sandy make some notes. Check the answers. Step Two: Part A2 1. T: Each coin has two sides. There are also some advantages and disadvantages of living on Mars. Listen to the discussion in Part A2 and help Sandy complete her lists. 2. Discuss the answers with your partners. Girls stand up and tell us the advantages of living on Mars and boys tell us the disadvantages. Step Three: Part A3 1. After finishing Part A1 and Part A2, let’s look at Daniel and Sandy’s conversation in Part A3. They are talking about the TV programme.
