航线ATP General Aircraft Avionics

Aircraft Avionics General Developed by Captain Ronald R. Tucker Asst. Chief Pilot, Airline Training Regional Airline Academy Western Division Campus Williams Gateway Airport KIWA Mesa, AZ navigation equipment The use of radio navigation equipment dates back to the early 1920s, where in 1928, the Aeronautics Branch of the Department of Commerce commissioned the first radio range beacon on the Federal airways at Bellefonte Station, Pa. Jimmy Doolittle spent the 1920s serving as an engineering test pilot at McCook Field in Dayton, the army’s aviation test facility, and at the navy’s facility at Mitchell Field, New York. He was one of the first scientific test pilots. He worked on aircraft acceleration tests and the development of instruments that would enable pilots to fly when they were unable to see the ground called blind flying. On September 24, 1929, Doolittle made the first blind flight, taking off, flying a set course, and landing while flying under a fabric hood so he could not see outside the plane. He received the Harmon Trophy for the feat. navigation equipment Since Doolittle’s time, the navigation system of the United States has grown in strength and usability, until it has reached the point we are today— the ability to navigate nationwide, and make precision instrument approaches, all without having to look outside the cockpit! Very High Frequency Omni- directional Range (VOR) The Very High Frequency Omni-Directional Range (VOR) navigation systems are used for enroute and terminal navigation purposes. When used in conjunction with distance measuring equipment (DME), localizers and glideslope receivers, VORs can be used for precision approaches and landings. VORs operate within the 108.0 to 117.95 MHz frequency band and have a power output necessary to provide coverage within their assigned location. The VOR system is subject to line-of-sight restrictions, and the range varies proportionally to the altitude and qua
