Cancer can be divided into main groups, depending on their origin. Tumors originating from the mesenchyme are called sarcomas. They comprise malignancies arising from connective tissue, muscle, endothelial and related tissues, and blood. Carcinomas are derived from epithelial cells. They contribute the main part of malignancies in human, such as tumors of the skin, breast, lungs, and the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts. Also, malignant melanomas are usually included in this group, which poses the most serious problems in the clinic and therefore is given special emphasis in the experimental laboratory.
