Simple Introduction Author and Educator A visionary author, Simonds was responsible for several influential publications. His book Landscape Architecture, first published in 1961 and with revised editions in 1983 and 1998. has been one of the primary texts used in landscape architecture education for half a century. Other works such as Earthscape: A Manual of Environmental Planning (1978) and Garden Cities 21 (1994) compliment and expand upon the Landscape Architecture texts. In these and other writings, he preached his belief that the built environment should be compatible and harmonious with the natural environment.
