Unit 15 Orders Learning Objectives By the end of this unit you should be able to have a good command of the form and structure of an order; use Writing Techniques in this unit comfortably in your Business English Writing; practise placing an order and giving a reply by using some related words; acquire the ability to place an order and give a reply with the help of dictionaries and the Internet. Task One: Work in pairs and have a discussion to find out some useful words and phrases for placing an order and making a reply to it. Just try your best and then exchange your findings with other pairs in your class. Task Two: After finishing Task one, you are to do a group work—find out how many parts an order and a reply should include and what they are. Then check your findings with your teacher. Presentation An order is placed by the buyer to the seller as a request to make or supply goods. It can be either in the form of a readymade order sheet or in the form of a letter. So long as the form or the letter is confirmed by the buyers and the sellers, it will become a contract binding on both parties. Therefore, it must be written accurately and clearly to avoid any confusion or trouble. In order to fulfill the order and maintain the trade relationship, the seller should give a prompt reply to the order. The reply can be an acceptance or a rejection. Business Situation Thomas Macziola, the purchasing manager of Lucky Electric Appliance Company is placing an order with Haier Company for 1,500 sets of washing machines.
