Narrative: What should be your next step to promote parent engagement in your school or district? You should create an Action Plan. Notes to Facilitator: If you choose not to do this optional Activity #4, you can hide slides #24 – #29 (see instructions on how to do this in the Facilitator’s Guide, p. 12). Even if you choose not to do this optional Activity #4 (pp. 18 – 20), you should take this opportunity to encourage participants to develop an action plan at a later time. The action plan will help school staff identify specific actions, as a team, to increase parent engagement in their school. You can also remind participants that this optional activity builds on Activities #1 – #3. You can share with participants that this action plan for parent engagement in school health can be integrated into the school’s existing program for parent engagement. * Narrative: An Action Plan is a detailed outline that spells out specific goals, objectives, and activities focusing on parent engagement. To create an Action Plan, you’ll need to bring together an Action Team — a group of school staff, parents, students, and other community members dedicated to assessing parent engagement, developing and implementing actions grounded in parent engagement strategies, advocating for change, facilitating improvements, and evaluating progress and outcomes. * Narrative: When you are creating your Action Plan, you should consider the following questions: What is your school or district presently doing to promote parent engagement (from Activities #1, #2, or #3)? What is missing? Which new strategy, action, activity, or policy change would be the most feasible and appropriate for your school or district to use that you are not doing now? What strategies have other schools or local school districts in your area implemented? How might you go about finding out what strategies other schools or school districts are successfully implementing? What strategies might also
