Ship Statutory and SOLAS 4-1 Ventilation System in Accommodation Ventilation System in Accommodation Purpose of the regulations/rules: h Containment of Fire h Crew Comfort 2 Ventilation System in Accommodation Control of air supply: h The main inlets and outlets shall be capable of being closed from outside the spaces being ventilated. The means of closing shall be easily accessible as well as prominently and permanently marked and shall indicate whether the shut-off is open or closed. h Power ventilation shall be capable of being stopped from an easily accessible position outside the space being served. This position shall not be readily cut off in the event of a fire in the spaces served. 3 Ventilation System in Accommodation Duct and Dampers: h Ventilation ducts shall be of non-combustible material. However, short ducts, not generally exceeding 2m in length and with a free cross-sectional area not exceeding 0.02m2, need not be non- combustible subject to the following conditions: 1. The ducts are made of a material which has low flame spread characteristics. 2. The ducts are only used at the end of the ventilation device. 3. The ducts are not situated less than 600mm, measured along the duct, from an opening in and A or B class division including continuous B class ceiling. 4 Ventilation System in Accommodation h The following arrangements shall be tested in accordance with the (IMO) fire test procedures code: 1.
