A Time to Break Silence 打破沉寂 Martin Luther King，4 April 1967 马丁路德金，1967年4月4日 Four years after American involvement in Vietnam began, King boldly issued his first statement against the war by calling for a negotiated peace settlement. His condemnation of the War garnered criticism from the government and some SCLC colleagues. Following advice to focus on civil rights instead, King decided to approach the issue of Vietnam with some reticence. Yet, when President Johnson announced his plan to divert funds from the War on Poverty to Vietnam in December of 1966, King could no longer suppress his opposition.
