The serial data format conforms to the ARINC 429 specifications, which offer a common protocol for data interchange between equipment produced by various manufacturers. OBJECTIVE Understand the concept and the basic definitions of the ARINC 429 standard. Differentiate the different ways ARINC-429 interfaces with cockpit instrument and avionic equipment. Describe the functionality of every component in the ARINC-429 interfacing system. Familiarization with ARINC-429 transmit and receive circuit. An ARINC 429 bus (channel) consists of a single Twisted Shielded Wire Pair (TSWP), with wire A of slate color and wire B of white color. The shield of the TSWP must be grounded at EACH end and at ALL junctions along the transmission bus. ARINC 429 buses are unidirectional and transfer serial data in ARINC 429 format from a transmitter to a receiver. With bi-directional transmission we will use 2 separate channels or buses.
