A Rose for Emily When waking up in the morning, people always do not know what’s going to happen, who they are going to meet, or where they are going to wind up… It is a breathless summer day, with a vague resemblance to these angels in colored church windows---sort of tragic and serene. This time the town had just let the contracts for paving the sidewalks, and in the summer after Dad’s death, they began to word. Suddenly, a big, dark, ready man, with a big voice and eyes lighter than his face bust into my mind. (Is he Homer Barron?) It seemes that he is responsible for the construction, however, he is not at work, but he is surrounded by a group of children, chatting. How friendly he is ! Pretty soon, he knew everybody in town. Where there is him, there is pleasure. As I was attracted by his appearance, I don’s dare to talk to him. (As female , I should be restrained.) The next day, he told me that he wanted to date with me, but I don’s know how he get acquaintance to me. Abrubtly, my heart was flooded with pleasure. Finally, he drove in the yellow-wheeled buggy and the matched team of bays from the livery stable. (My life turned different as if he appeared, the oasis in the desert.) He always calmed down my heart. However, I know he is a Yankee, and I am strongly supposed to keep my noblesse oblige because of our different backgrounds. Falling in love with his may be painful to us in the future, so I am deeply convinced that loving him should be stayed by my side. We got to know that it was as if Emily demanded more than ever the recognition of her dignity as the last Grierson; as if it had wanted that touch of earthiness to reaffirm her imperviousness. As days went by, I found that he seemed to like men, and it was known that he drank with the younger men in the Elks’ Club---that he was not a marrying man.
