The South Korean Nation’s Obedience South Korea, a small country on the far eastern edge of Asia, has a long history of being a satellite of ancient Japan and China (Facts about Korea). When the South Korean nation encountered strong powers, they tended to be obedient to the strong powers rather than challenge the dilemma. The “Strong powers” mentioned above not only refers to difficulties occurred in natural environments but also to strong states all over the world, such as the United States, Japan, China, some international institutions and so on. Many aspects of South Korean’s life provide convincing proofs for their obedient attitude toward strong powers. China has had a powerful influence on the Korea Peninsula in its history, which was the predecessor of the South Korea. There was a time in Korean history that three native Korean kingdoms, Koguryo, Paekche and Silla were founded in the peninsula, but none of them were strong enough to overthrow the other two kingdoms and form a united dynasty. One of these kingdoms, Silla, after forming an alliance with the Tang Dynasty, conquered Koguryo and Paekche by 668 AD (Korea history). It shows that ancient Korea handled its internal affairs with the help of strong powers instead of on its own. Their way to handle political problems indicates their worship of strong powers, resulting in their attitudes to powerful forces. It also occurred in history that Koryo first surrendered to the Song Dynasty but immediately became a vassal of the Liao Dynasty when the latter grew stronger. When the Yuan Dynasty became the most powerful state and threatened to replace both Song and Liao, Korea abandoned Liao and surrendered to Yuan immediately. The Korean nation had to surrender to the continental monarchs, no matter they are good or bad, which fully shows Korea’s dependence and weakness (Li 21).
