According to Hemingway’s own experience of the war, with war and love as the main line, this book talks about the American youth Frederic Henry went to northern Italy volunteered as an ambulance driver during World War I , and the love story between Henry and the British nurse Catherine Barkley. This paper takes manliness as the theme, analyzes Henrys personality from the perspectives of courage, willpower, self-control, self-confidence, responsibility and honor, as well as his attitude to life,war and love.
