Year 1 YEAR 1 Education, Teachers and Teaching (EDUF1018)UNIT OF STUDYThis unit of study is the first part of Education I and provides a general introduction to education and teaching. The unit integrates the following themes: knowledge, culture and the curriculum; teaching as a process and way of life; and, teachers as life-long learners and researchers. Within this unit, students are also mentored by more experienced students during their first semester transition to the university. It looks briefly at the history of early childhood education in Australia from the time of settlement to the present day. It examines contemporary approaches to early childhood education, care and family support programs with particular focus on the social and cultural dynamic of the families utilising service types, and the communities in which they function.
