The new 106,000 sq ft elementary magnet school in Connecticut features a LEED Silver design, a rain screen exterior and four prominent?environmental demonstration components for educational purpose: 50% of the roofing is intensively planted and designed for active use by?students; a rain garden with observation dock demonstrates the natural filtration process of rain water on site, a large holding tank below?ground illustrates how stormwater run-off can be used onsite to reduce fresh water consumption for irrigation and downstream demands on?water treatment systems; a wind-turbine located at the high point will demonstrate the harnessing of ‘free-energy’.
