The background of the poem This poem is published in 1865. It is one of a group of poetry which the author write to commemorate the President Lincoln who is assassinated after the American war of Independence ended just five days( on April 14th, 1865 ). This poem expressed peoples deepest grief of the lost of the greatest leader on the grand moment of the celebration of the victory.
