Shenzhen Landmark Mansion I. Lead in :General introduction Shenzhen was set up as a Special Economic Zone in 1980, and since then miraculous changes have taken place. This former frontier town has now become one of the most moden cities in China. An airport, harbors and railway stations have been built one after another. Within a period of only ten years, Shenzhens population has reached to almost 2,400,000 (80 times the original number of residents). It is a city of immigrants. People from home and abroad like to settle down here and they enjoy living and working here. Shenzhen and Hong Kong are linked by the Luohu Bridge, which for more than 40 years has been the major gateway connecting Mainland China to the outside world. Although Shenzhen has no great historical sites, its special position, excellent tourist facilities and good service continually attract travelers. In addition to tourists, many come here on business, as companies throughout China usually have offices in Shenzhen. Due to these factors, Shenzhen has become one of Chinas most successful and fastest-growing cities, attracting more and more visitors each year. Shenzhen began developing its tourism industry a decade ago. Over the past few years, the number of tourist attractions has continued to expand. The different tourist attractions in Shenzhen are located in two major areas of the city--the western and eastern suburbs. Shenzhen is the first Special Economic Zone of China. The city is composed of many high-rise buildings, straight avenues and modern office buildings. There are all kind of shops selling a great variety of commodities from information goods to fashion products. Furthermore, you can find typical cuisines of many countries and enjoy the well-developed tourist environment. With geographical proximity to Hong Kong and Macao, Shenzhen attracts millions of visitors from China and abroad everyday, entering the city via Luohu port or Shekou pier(码头). The city
