Now he felt too old to do his work, and it was time to retire. Unfortunately, he and his wife had not saved much money. “You have been a good worker,” said his boss. “Please help me with just one more project before you retire. I need a special housebuilt, so I want my best worker to build it.” The carpenter agreed. The carpenter started working on the house. At first he worked hard, as usual. But soon, he developed a bad attitude. “I haveworked hard all my life building nice houses.” he thought. “Other people live in the nice houses I built. But I will live the rest of my life in a little apartment. ” So he became lazy. He didn’t concentrate on his work. He bought cheap materials. It didn’t matter that his boss had always been a fair employer-the carpenter’s bad attitude had taken over. When the house was completed, the carpenter knew that his work was poor. He knew that the floors wereuneven, and that the roof would leak. When the boss met the carpenter, he said, “You have been a very good worker. Now I want to reward you.”He gave the housekey to the carpenter. “This houseis yours.” The carpenter felt ashamed. If only he had kept a good attitude and worked to the best of his ability.
