The p ub lish ing of Zhu X i ′s V ariorum of the Fou r Book s triggered an academ ic up su rge of the study of the Fou r Book s in the Sou thern Sung Dyna sty w ith the cla ssical text of the Fou r Book s and V ariorum of the Fou r Book s a s dual study objects. The cu ltu ral h istoric facts of the study of cla ssic s denote that the study of cla ssic s is one of anno tation and exp lanation according to the cla ssic text; being versed in cla ssic s and argum en tation of cla ssic s are an in trin sic driving force of the
