A business letter is a letter written in formal language, usually used when writing from one business organization to another, or for correspondence between such organizations and their customers, clients and other external parties. How many types of business letters do you know? Letter of inquiry / request Letter of complaint Letter of adjustment Letter of confirmation Letter of acknowledgement Letter of application (cover letter, personal statement, curriculum vitae / résumé, letter of recommendation, follow-up letter.) …… Could you come up with some basics for writing business letters? 4Cs: clear, concise, complete, courteous! Clearkeep to the point and convey clear, factual messages. Concise preferably one page in length. Busy business people don’t like to read beyond the first page, and tend to delay reading longer letters. Completecarefully plan your letter before writing and list all the specific points you need to cover so that more letters won’t have to be written back and forth. Courteousbe customer friendly if you are writing directly to them. Put yourself in their position and imagine what it would be like receiving your letter. Since a printed letter is the norm these days…… Paper with the printed letterhead is usually used. (address, website, tel, fax, logo of the organization.) The text should be typed in the same typeface and font size. You may use either indented paragraphs (single-spaced) or block paragraphs (double-spaced). freelance(r), fiction manuscript, schedule an interview. More than often, there is a typed as well as a handwritten signature. One more point: Hopefully, your business letter is addressed to a named individual if possible.
