Abstract
Engine cooling system plays a vital role in improving the vehicle fuel economy and meeting the stringent emission
norms apart from maintaining the operating temperature of engine. The airflow through vehicle subsystems like the
grille, bumper, hood -latch baffles, the heat exchangers, the fan and shroud is called as front-end flow. Front end flow
(Underhood air flow) is crucial factor in engine cooling system as well as in determining the aerodynamic drag of
vehicle. This paper discusses the front end flow rate prediction, factors influencing the front end flow and its influence
on vehicle drag. Further the trends in the aerothermal management in order to improve the front end flow and
vehicle performance also discussed.
