Dongting lake region is located in t he middle reaches of t he Yangtze Valley . The wetland in Dongt ing lake region is t he largest lacustrine in China , which is 8. 77 ×105 ha . It can be divided into t hree typ es : t he shallow waters , t helake and river shore ,and t he Paddy fields. Akong wit h t he frequent redaimation on wetlands ,it has made some harmful influence on t he environment , i . e . , t he severe flooding , inundation , and water - logging ,neduced wetland areas ,and degraded ecological functions. In order to utilize and protect t he wetland rationally , t he following measures must be taken : 1) con trolling t he scale of wetlands reclaimation and making great effort s to construct high - efficient e cosystems ; 2) stabilizing t he area of wetland ; 3) strengt hening comprehensive management of wet land . According to t he principles of ecological engineering and previous practices , comprehensive uti lization models which are suitable to t he shallow waters , lake and river shore ,and Paddy fields were constructed .
