There are various ways of forming words, but by and large, the various processes can be classified on the basis of frequency of usage, into major or minor processes. The major processes are three, namely, compounding (the words formed by the process account for 27% of the new vocabulary since WWII), derivation (17.5%), and conversion (10.5%). Noticeably, all of the words take up 55% of the new vocabulary. 主要的构词过程有三种，所生成的词汇占总词汇的55%：派生法（17.5%)，转化法（(10.5%），复合法（27%）。 2.1. 定义Definition: A process of forming new words by the addition of a word element, such as a prefix, suffix, or both, to an already existing word. 一个词根加前缀，或后缀，或两者，构成一个新词的过程。 2.1.1.加前缀 Prefixation: 2.1.1.1. 定义Definition: The formation of new words by adding a prefix to the base. 词根加一个前缀生成一个新词。 2.1.1.2. 特点Characteristics: 1）They modify the lexical meaning of the base; 修饰词根的语义 2）They do not generally alter the word-class of the base, e.g. fair--- unfair.
