The author shows us the whole life of Macbeth who is successful of protecting his country and respected by the king and his people as a hero at the beginning but finally goes to the tragic death as a usurper. This paper is to analyze the causes of the tragedy of Macbeth. To the author, the reasons can be divided into two parts; the internal causes which seem to be the most important causes, Macbeth himself; and the external causes, such as the social background and other major characters which have great influence on him. His keen insight into human nature and society at that time and his vivid characterization reveal that he is a great genius as an author. Especially, Macbeth, one of the Shakespeare’s four tragedies, occupies a very important place in the world literature realm. This paper is to explore the deep meaning through analysis of?Macbeth in order to find the real reason for the outcome of tragedies. Part1. Macbeth Himself: Tragedy Caused by Ambition Macbeth, Thane of Glamis, is one of King Duncan’s greatest war captains. Upon returning from a battle with the rebellious Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth and Banquo encounter three witches. They predict Macbeth will become the king. By Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s insist ambition, Macbeth kills the king and is crowned King of Scotland, thus fulfilling the witches prophecy. But Macbeth goes mad gradually.
