Now the competition is very intense 1956：SINOTRANS is the only company which run international freight forwarding business. SINOTRANS leased ship and booked space as every foreign trade company ‘s request. 1984：COSCO, PENAVICO can canvass from goods owner directly and lease a few ships. Foreign trade company and industry trade company set up freight forwarding companies, which can deputize their own goods. Samples:中粮(COFCO), 五矿(MINMETAL), 中国服装进出口总公司 1994：MOFTEC’s transportation department began to manage this business . 1995：the first foreign corporation was founded in China. Till now there are 10 foreign companies and over 1000 foreign offices. 2001：The number of freight forwarding company which has MOFTEC’s license is about 2100, among them, joint companies is 500, foreign companies is 10；also there are more than 5000 secondary agents, 1000 foreign offices without licenses. Market competition is very intensive, share is scattered. Freight forwarding can be divided into 3 parts: Business, Documentation and Operations. The companies without licenses cannot enter Operations part, but have considerable market share in other two parts The international public freight forwarding companies with global network, such as Panalpina entered China only to service their international clients. They prefer to utilize the local network, and play as information service provider to local freight forwarding agents.
