American Transcendental writer. Born in Concord, Massachusetts in 1817. Mother knew Emerson’s wife’s sister which led Thoreau to know Emerson. Studied in Harvard. (1833 – 1837) As a child, loved to explore the nature around Concord. Home Continue Was not an easy person to get along with. Wrote the very famous essay, Walden. Lived for 2 years, alone, in the woods, in a place called Walden Pond. Thoreau was a protester as well. (Is sent to jail 1 day because of this) Lived in Emerson’s house doing different weird jobs. Becomes sort of like the record keeper of Concord 1860, Thoreau gets a cold which leads to the discovery of his tuberculosis. In 1860 Thoreau dies from tuberculosis but has a very calm and peaceful death.
