We will now look at the cartographic tools available in the PLTS Map Production System-Atlas (also called MPS-Atlas). MPS-Atlas is one of the PLTS Foundation components that can be purchased as a stand alone extension. * Controlling the surround elements is also made easy in atlas through the use of Automated element placement rules. With the placement rules you can ensure that the north arrow is always centered over top of the scale bar. * The Create Map Sheet does not create an entire map series for you – rather it will use the current visible extent as the area of interest and generates a single map sheet with all the properties of a series or template that you specify. * With this style of map series the AOI changes, but the features included and their symbology will remain the same. * Alternatively you could choose to include just a single feature in the map series – this will let you create what is known as a thematic map series. With a thematic map – the area of interest stays the same however the information being depicted changes. For example with the thematic map series being shown here we are displaying different levels of population data for the US – we have the overall population, the female population, and the male population. * Using the Context menu in the MPS-Atlas tab you have the ability to toggle between the map sheets. You can also change the status of the map sheet to a single or a shared map sheet. Shared map sheets are linked – meaning all the surround elements are shared. For example adding a north arrow to one map sheet will add it to all of the map sheets. Single map sheets are not linked, they are individual - Edits made to a single map sheet do not impact other sheets in the ser
