“Integrating Climate Change Adaptation into Development Planning”Training Program conducted for the technical and project officers (TOs and Pos) of Department of Rural Development, A.P, Hyderabad (5-7 Jan 2012)A three day training program on “Integrating climate change adaptation into development planning” was organized by the Rural Development department in collaboration with GIZ. The participants included the technical and project officers of the department from the Water Shed Development program. Context for the trainingClimate change is one of the important areas of concern for development planners. The department of rural development has many initiatives which have linkages with climate change. Watershed development projects in particular aim at reducing land degradation, enhancing livelihoods and sustaining and increasing productivity of land etc. It is therefore felt that the staff should develop an understanding of how these goals could be affected by climate change and what needs to be done in order to deal with the potential impacts of climate change.The objective of the training was to help the Rural Development staff to understand the issues in climate change adaptation and provide them with tools and processes to systematically analyze, identify and incorporate adaptation options into their respective activities and projects. Specific objectives based on the above included:Learn what climate change is, and how it is interlinked with development planning and implementation. How to think through systematic steps aiming at defining concrete adaptation options at sector, local, program and project levelHow to plan and support processes of mainstreaming adaptation to climate change in their institution.Given these objectives a three day training program was carved out covering the three modules: The modules covered here are part of a bigger program with 7 additional modules developed by GIZ’s Climate Task Force, in close cooperation with OECD.Three day progr
