Education Promotion Society for India Preliminary Recommendations for Higher Education EPSI is a catalyst nodal agency of the country for promotion of Education covering all fields of education – School, Higher, Vocational and Professional education. EPSI will be the representative body of the academia and education providers that will facilitate interface with industry, government, and statutory bodies and will be involved in promotion of Indian Education across the globe. Some of the focus areas of the society include: Quality Education with Industry interface; Setting standards of quality for education; Exploring globalisation opportunities emerging overseas and within the country; Effective Coordination with regulator for employment oriented academic programs. Executive Summary Aimed at helping the government take a fresh look at the current education policy, the recommendations address diverse areas, such as Private and Public Participation, Independent Accreditation Bodies, Reservation and Admissions, Fees, Financing and Affordability, Foreign Participation, amongst others The recommendations submitted by EPSI have called for Review of National Education Policy, 1986 which is not in tune and has diluted relevance in conjunction with the current economic and knowledge development scenario in the country also in perspective of global developments such as WTO agreement Review of Role and responsibilities of statutory agencies and their inability to establish relevance with the industry and to address the quality issues pertaining to higher education Need for higher level of two way communication between the academia and the government in investing in holistic development of relevant Higher Education Need for higher level of involvement of the industry since, they are the direct beneficiary for formulation of relevance and employable curricula Some specific recommendations include: Have a Single Window Clearance System Approach for conducive environment that
