It supersedes BS 1259:1958, BS 5501-7:1977 and BS EN 50020:1995 all of which are withdrawn. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by Technical Committee GEL/31, Electrical apparatus for explosive atmospheres, to Subcommittee GEL/31/13, Intrinsically safe apparatus, which has the responsibility to: — aid enquirers to understand the text; — present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep UK interests informed; — monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK.
