Rationales for choosing this particular poem Easy language Appropriate length Topic The movie “Dead Poets Society” Warming up activity: (Time: 5 minutes) Teacher greets the students Ask the students the question “If you have a huge crush on someone, will you make a move? Why or Why not? The teacher introduces the poem to the students. (Do you want to know the answer? Let’s learn the poem together.) Rationale: arouse students’ interest of the poem by the question that they will probably be interested about. Presentation: (Time 15 minutes) Task1: Each group is assigned with one certain stanza of the poem. Finish the replacement activity and report to the class the rationales for their word choice. The teacher check it up with the author’s original text. (8 minutes) Task2: Put the 4 stanzas in the correct order. (4 minutes) Task 3: Play the audio of the poem, students listen and read the poem aloud together and individually. (3 minutes) Rationale The first task aims at the rhyming and word choice; the jig-saw type of activity is to make the class more student-centered.
