Th e t h in foil s w er e ex am in ed u sin g t r an sm i ssion electron microscopy to characterize the microstructure of the oxide film and to categorize the surface defects. We conclude that the formation of the oxidation spots was associated with mill dusts and contaminants from the cleaning water. Since salt spray test and polarization measurement failed to explain the occurrence of these oxidation sp ot s, a high humidity test was develop ed t o duplicat e th e ox id at ion sp ot s. Fact or s affect ing the formation of the defect s were identified and the thickness of the surface oxide was found to be the key to eliminating the oxidation spot.
