Such an artistic image is called“a dauntless man”，and Santiago is such a person. The life philosophy is close to the theory of survival of the fittest. He thought that life is cruel and brutal. The peace was just the extension of the wars. They were sill very cold and indifferent. Those generations wounded by the wars written by Hemingway were not only numb and pessimistic, but also had some mental pursuits, which were quite strong and inflexible.
