Class: Name: Date: Ps. 《The God Must Be Crazy》 The God Must Be Crazy The Gods Must Be Crazy is a South African comedy film written and directed by Jamie Uys. Originally released in 1980, the film is the first in The Gods Must Be Crazy series of films. Set in Botswana, it tells the story of Xi, a Sho of the Kalahari Desert (played by Namibian San farmer N?xau) whose band has no knowledge of the world beyond.。 The God-given bottle is the main clue of the first story. It seems that the so called civilized modern living is right the satirized object——people in the prosperous city drive several miles from home to post a letter. In the whole film, the fierce but silent collision between the civilized and the uncivilized make us burst into laughter but then draw us to the deep contemplation. What is funny? Or Which side is funny? May be both, but it remains to be find out by the time. For the aboriginal, they reckon the modern people master the magic but when they lose their magic weapon they cannot live any longer. It is right the “magic” makes drive the civilized man to study for several scores of years to know how to use their magic and live. They are not so happy in proportion with the magic they get, from the angle of an onlooker as the watcher. The magic bring them with convenience but meanwhile complexity. In contrast, the aboriginal’s whole family keeps happy always and when it comes to the harvest season, the whole family will collect the fruit with sing and song. Their living is so simple ,but so happy. The bottle story also reminds me of the book I have recently read 《Walden》，written by Henry David Thoreau. Before the bottle come to their world, the whole tribe lives jollily, respect the old and cherish the young, the feel content about what they have got , and keeps grateful for the God.
