Introduce today’s lesson by telling the class that today they will learn some more about North American food. Tell the students the title of today’s lesson: Donuts. Does anybody know what a donut is? Has anybody ever eaten a donut? LET’S LOOK AT OUR BOOKS Give the standard command for students to take out their student books. 1. Danny likes donuts. Discuss the pictures on page 38. Read the line beneath the photo aloud. Explain that this is a polite way of offering something to a person. Briefly review good manners. Can any student tell you the polite way to ask for something? (May I have___? or May I please have___?) What is the polite response when you receive something? (Thanks or Thank you.) How should you respond when someone says Thank you? (You’re welcome or You are welcome.) Give the “listen” command. The audiotape will repeat each sentence. Ask the students to listen the first time, then say the words along with the audiotape the second time. The audiotape says: [Narrator] Would you like a donut? Would you like a donut?
