Maize Research Institute , Sichuan Agricultural University , Yaan 6250 14 , Sichuan , China) Abstract : Chilling temperat ure is one of t he import ant environment al factor s to limit t he dist ribution of plant chillingsensitive species and decrease t he p roductivit y of t ropical and subt ropical crop s. Tho se plant s are also inj ured at chilling temperat ure . U nder chilling st ress , ion leakage resulting from t he membrane lipid p hase t ransition leads to t he met abolism disor der of plant cell and at t he same time , t he cell is inj ured by t he accumulation of AO S (Active oxygen species) . This p aper summaries t he genes involved in t he membrane st ability and scavenging AO S under chilling st ress. The regulation of t he gene exp ression and t heir application in imp rovement of crop s tolerant to chilling st ress are also dis cussed here .
