The Application of Behaviorism in Language Teaching Abstract The behaviorists believe that all human’s behavior can gain through stimulus-response theory. People will change their behavior in order to suit for the environment under the reinforcement. Although the behaviorism has it natural shortcomings and it has been criticized for many years, it did make a great contribution to language acquisition and teaching. Under the behaviorism theory, teachers provide an S-R environment for students to gain their habits. Then, use the positive reinforcement or negative reinforcement to enhance or decrease the suitable or unsuitable habits. As for English language teaching, teachers teach listening, speaking, grammar and writing in an effective way under the behaviorism theory. Key words: behaviorism; teaching; stimulus; response; English 摘要 行为主义学家认为人所有的行为都可以通过刺激-反应理论习得。在强化的条件下人们会根据外在环境的不同来改变自己的行为以适应整个环境。尽管行为主义有它天生的缺点，而且数年来一直被评判，但是在语言习得和教学中，它的却做出了突出的贡献。在行为主义的理论指导下，老师给学生们提供了一个刺激-反应的大环境以此来让学生养成习惯。然后，通过正强化增加合适的习惯，通过负强化消退不合适的习惯。对于英语教学来说，教师在行为主义的理论指导下可以有效的教听说、语法和写作。 关键词：行为主义；教学；刺激；反应；英语 Contents Abstract (English).......................................................................................................................i Abstract (Chinese)......................................................................................................................ii Introduction............................................................................................................4 2.
