This is a piece of expository writing It focuses esp. on the attitudes and revolt of the young people who returned from World War I, disappointed and disillusioned (幻灭). 2. structure: Part 1. para. 1 introduction Part 2. Para. 2-9 support and develop the thesis (the rejection of Victorian gentility was, in any case, inevitable (para.3); the rebellion started with World War I. (para. 5); meanwhile the true intellectuals were far from flattered (para. 9) Part 3. para. 10-11 conclusion 3. The thesis of the passage: (in the last para.): ”The intellectuals of the twenties, the ‘sad young men,’ as F.
