Pragmatic Analysis on the Humor of the American Situation Comedy Friends Abstract: Humor is a kind of essential sauce to peoples life. Firstly this thesis puts forward the concept of humor, and briefly illustration of pragmatic theories will be involved in the thesis. Then it analyses some of humorous lines from “Friends” as examples combined with pragmatic theories. Through comprehensive summary and analysis, it aims at guiding students to grasp related pragmatic theories in English study correctly and improving English learners’ comprehension to English humor.
