Ecological and Environmental Researc Center, C inese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100085, C ina Abstract: T e land surface vegetation variation before and after t e eart quake in Wenc uan, Sic uan Province was monitored using multi- platform and multi-resolution Remote Sensing ( RS) data. T e ecological destroy intensity due to t e eart quake and t e distribution c aracteristics were analyzed. By constructing GIS models and spatial overlay analysis, t e c anges of ecological capacity of ecological disaster region, t e impacts of abitats and biodiversity in t e nature reserves, and t e decline of ecosystem service of t e assessment region caused by eart quake were studied. T e results s owed t at t e ecosystems were seriously destroyed in t e eart quake disaster region. T e main impacts included regional ecosystem capacity decline caused by destroy of land surface and intensification of soil and water loss, abitat fragmentation and biodiversity loss, and decline of ecosystem services.
