There are many interesting places: the Great Wall Tian’an men Square Forbidden City （紫禁城 ） the Summer Palace （ 颐和园） What’s in the pictures? There are some old city walls. There used to be lots of old city walls in Beijing(before the 1950s). Most old city walls were pulled down in the 1960s. Today ,more modern building and roads appear. We are trying our best to protect and rebuild the old city walls .We like old things because they make the city more beautiful. We can learn a lot from them about history and people. New expressions in 1a and 1b: 1.more than = over 超过 2.There were….＝There used tO be…. 过去有/曾经有…(过去曾经存在的状态,现在已不存在了.) There was an old building there.=there used to be an old building there. 3.pull down 推倒，拆毁（建筑物） sth be pulled down 被推倒/拆毁 There are more than 2,000 students in our school. I pulled down the chair.
