Abstra t: Therm oa ousti heat engine is a new type of energy onversion m a h ine based on the therm oa ousti effe t. It has
attra ted m u h attention due to its high effi ien y and none m e han i alm oving om ponents. In this paper, the developm ent
of expermi ental study on therm oa ousti engines is introdu ed. The ontributions and a h ievem ents of expermi en tal resear h
on the stand ing / travelingw ave therm oa ousti engines, therm oa ousti refrigerators and the pu lse tube refrigerators driven by
thermoa ousti engine all over the w orld are in trodu ed in detail as w ell. In addition, the future developm ent trends and ap-
p li ation prospe t of thermoa ousti engines are fore asted.
