AbstractInthispaper,basedontheresearchofTiandTiAlalloysdirectionalsolidificationwithcoldcrucibleandaprocessforTialloyswith2.5:1near-rectangularcoldcrucible,acompositionofTi46Al0.5Si0.5Wwaspreparedwithdirectionalandfinegrainsinslabshape.Theeffectsoftechnicalparametersonthegrainmodalitiesarestudiedwithorthogonalexperiments.Theresultsshowthatwithincreasingpowergrainstrendstogrowupwhilethedirectionofgrainsisimproved.Grainstrendtobefinerbutthedirectionismoredeviatedfromthegrowthdirectionwithincreasingwithdrawalvelocity.Whenthepreheatingtimeisprolonged,thesizeandthedirectionofgrainsbothtrendtobedisbennifit.Therefore,itshouldbethatpreheatingtimeiscutasshortaspossiblewiththeguaranteeofenoughsuperheat.Themacro-andmicrostructuresandphasecomponentsofTi46Al0.5Si0.5Wslabingotsareobservedandanalyzedwithdigitalcamera,opticalmicroscopy(OM),scanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM)andX-Raydiffraction(XRD).Theregionnearthesolidificationinterfaceispartitionedofftofourdistinctareasbythreeinterfaces,whichareareasoflastsolidifiedliquid,trianglewithbendside,brightstripandsteadysolidifiedsolid,respectively.Itisascertainedthattheareasoflastsolidifiedliquidandtrianglewithbendsideareboththeoriginalliquiduszone,andthebrightstriparetheoriginalmushyzone.Furthermore,withthecompositionvariationofTiAlalloys,thewidthofbrightstripischangedalso.Insidethezoneofsteadydirectionalsolidification,themicrostructureismainlyfullyalternativelamellarstructuresformedwithγstripsandα2lamellae.AdditivesinTi46Al0.5Si0.5Walloyexistassolidsolutionsincrystalandtheydonotparticipateascompounds.TheformingprocessoflamellarstructureofTi46Al0.5Si0.5WalloyisanalyzedanddeterminedwithAlequivalence.Theγ+α2lamellaethatformjustduringsolid-solidphasetransformationdisplaymanydirectionsthatdeviatefromthegrowthdirectionofthecrystal.Thisisbecauseofthesegregationandthecompetitionoftheleadingphaseduringsolidification.Also,avarietyofstructurescouldexistintermsofthefactorsaccordingtothesteadyabilitywithinthesystem.Thefracturetoughnessoflamellarstruct
