AbstractAZ91D magnesium matrix composite reinforced by Mg2B2O5 whisker were fabricated via Vortex method and Vacuum-gas pressure infiltration process, and the volume fraction of the reinforcements were 3%, 5%, 10% and 35%. Researched onthe electrochemical corrosion behavior of magnesium matrix composite in NaCl、Na2CO3、Na2SO4、NaOH and Salt lake solution with electrochemical method. Studied the impact of the whisker volume fraction on the corrosion resistance of magnesiummatrix composites. And then, the fluence of different medium concentration to magnesium matrix composite is studied. The surface morphology of the composite after corrosion test was observed by scanning electronic microscopy(SEM). The corrosion products on the surface of magnesium matrix composite were analysis by X-Ray diffraction. Analysis the Corrosion mechanism of the magnesium matrix composite in every solutions. And explored the protecting method.The results show that the magnesium matrix composite containing whisker made it form many tiny thermocouple with matrix, it increased the speed of corrosion in the early. The corrosion potential were all improved after smoothing. The corrosion resistance of magnesium matrix composite with the whisker volume fraction 35% isthe best. In the solutions of NaCl、Na2CO3 and NaOH, the corrosion resistance ofmagnesium matrix composite was improved with the whisker volume fraction improving. The Mg2B2O5 whisker made the corrosion resistance of magnesium matrix composite better in Na2SO4, but the corrosion resistance was not changed with the whisker volume fraction. The electrochemical corrosion behavior of magnesium matrix composite in Salt lake solution is complex.Electroless nickel plating on the surface of magnesium matrix composite, A new electroless nickel plating method for the corrosion protection of magnesiummagnesium matrix was studied and the optimum conditions were concluded.AbstactNi-P-SiC composite coating on AZ91D magnesium matrix
