PAGE PAGE 2Research on soil seed bank in Karst rocky desertification Region in central GuizhouABSTRACTIn the central Guizhou karst region，the relative studies concerning soil seed banks had not been conducted and the present work is the first to carry out investigation and research on soil seed bank, which is corresponding to diferent successional stages of moderate rocky desertification moutains. Besides, we identify the relationship among aboveground vegetation, soil seed banks and seedlings through the analysis of vegetation, seedling and seed bank characteristics to integrate related knowledge on the three aspects. It reveals feasibility to restore the vegetation in central Guizhou region in fruture. The result show as follows:There are higher species diversity in the moutain areas of moderate rocky desertification region of central Guizhou Province. The primary stages of plant community succession in the areas have many herbaceous plants but species richness is poor. Species richness begin to grow with the community succession and these stages contain more bush plant than the early stages.Seeds are very abundant in soil seed banks.The maximum seed bank occures in February at herbal Ⅱ stage, which contains 3755 grains / ㎡ . The minimum does in May at the secondary bush-arbor forest stage and the number of seeds are 1042.2 grains /㎡. Succession process affectsthe size of soil seed bank. With the community succession, the density of the seed in soil declines. In February, ANOVA shows that there are significantly differeent between herb clumpⅠand Ⅱand rattan thorn bush clump and bush clump with seed bank size, but the seed banks of other stages are obiously different based on LSD-test. The difference of the seed banks at any stages is all not obvious in May. The value of the minimum difference occures between the primary and secondary forests, as is 44.5 grains / ㎡ .
