Please Attend Briefing – March 9, 2007 Call for Letters of Interest – Deadline: April 4, 2007 Background on SNAP-Pittsburgh (Stop Now and Plan) SNAP (Stop Now and Plan) is a program that treats behaviorally troubled boys and girls between the ages of six and eleven who have gotten in trouble with the police. The program is the longest running, highest ranked in effectiveness, and the most easily replicated program of its kind. You will find added information on SNAP at /SNAP.html The Allegheny County office of juvenile offenders is interested in starting SNAP-Pittsburgh. All replication sites have first focused on developing and implementing the SNAP program for boys. Funds are being raised to pilot SNAP in one part of Pittsburgh for two years. Near the end of the second year, a decision will be made to permanently fund this location out of the county budget for young juvenile offenders and then to expand it throughout Allegheny County. The agency selected for the pilot ideally will implement the SNAP program throughout the county and provide leadership for expansion. We have commitments about half the amount needed for the pilot implementation, oversight and evaluation. We need further support from foundations and are talking to them. However, we cannot expect foundations to formally commit to support the pilot until they receive a full proposal from the Implementation Agency. We would hope that the proposal the selected agency submits for this process also will serve as the proposal for the foundations. If not, we will provide funds to re-write the proposal in the format a particular foundation may require. The Implementation Agency will be by June 15.
