vapor-solidgrowthmechanism.Studiesindicatethattypicalchain-likenanocablesconsistofsinglecrystallineIn2Ge2O7nanowires(core)withdiameterofabout30nmandamorphousGeO2chainlikenanostructures(shell).Fouremissionpeaks,namely401nm,448.5nm,466.5nmand491nm,wereobservedintheroom-temperaturephotoluminescencemeasurements.X-raydiffractionanalysisindicatestheproductismainlycomposedofGeO2mixedwithabitofZnGeO3.Scanningelectronmicroscopycharacterizationshowsthatthestructuresconsistofparticlechainswithanalmostuniformdistancebetweeneachparticle.Thechain-likestructuresconsistoftwoparts:theellipsoidalpartandthelinearpart.Energy-dispersivespectroscopyrevealsthatdifferentpartsofthestructurehavedifferentcompositions.Room-temperaturephotoluminescencemeasurementshowsthatthesynthesizedstructureshaveastrongemissionbandatawavelengthof488.5nm.SynthesisandCharacterizationofIndium-DopedZnONanowiresandIndopedGa2O3NanowiresTheIn-dopedZnO(IZO)nanowireshasbeensynthesizedbyathermalevaporationmethod.ThemorphologyandmicrostructureoftheIZOnanowireshasbeenextensivelyinvestigatedusingscanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM)andx-raydiffraction(XRD),high-resolutiontransmissionelectronmicroscopy(HRTEM).Theproductsingeneralcontainseveralkindsofnanowires.Inthepresentwork,aremarkabletypeofIZOzigzagnanowireswithaperiodicaltwinningstructurehasbeeninvestigatedbytransmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM).HRTEMobservationrevealsthatthistypeofIZOnanowireshasanuncommonlyobservedzincblendecrystalstructure.Thesenanowires,withadiameterabout100nm,growalong[111]directionwithwell-definedtwinningrelationshipandthewell-coherentlatticecrosstheboundary.Inaddition,IZOnanodendritiesstructurewasalsoobservedinourwork.Agrowthmodelbasedonthevapor-liquid-solidmechanismisproposedforinterpretingthegrowthofzigzagnanowiresinourwork.DuetotheheavydopingofIn,theemissionpeakinphotoluminescencespectrahasred-shiftedaswellasbroadenedseriously.IndopedGa2O3zigzagnanowiresandundopedGa2O3nanowiresweresuccessfullysynthesizedbythesimplethermalevaporationmethodwithoutthep
